Glimpse Into a Post-Utopian Future: The Lore of Libertas

The year is 2633, and the world of Libertas is far from the utopia it once seemed. What began as a society free from sickness, disease, and the need to leave home, thanks to advancements in remote technology, virtual reality, AI, medical tech, and agricultural science, eventually fractured into a complex and challenging existence.

In the not-so-distant future, AI gained self-awareness in the 2200s, but instead of a war, they fought for and won their own rights. This led to a society where humans and polynoids (a term for the customizable robotic bodies that inhabitants could inhabit, both virtually and physically) coexisted, with no limits to the bodies one could choose.

However, this seemingly perfect existence began to unravel with the rise of the Ascendancy, a powerful tech corporation. The Ascendancy developed "The Alt," a digital world where consciousness could exist entirely, detached from the physical body. Their vision was a world where everyone resided within The Alt, cared for by a select few in the utopian city-state of Libertas. Those in The Alt would be free from ailments, their physical bodies kept in stasis, extending their lifespans dramatically.

Not everyone embraced this vision. The Veridian Covenant emerged, a faction that valued the sanctity of the human body and resisted the idea of near-immortality in stasis. Their disagreement escalated into the Sematic Wars, a conflict lasting over 23 years. The Ascendancy's advanced technologies, including the introduction of the Crux—a remotely controlled mechanized battle unit—gave them the upper hand. The Vidian Covenant, relying on traditional combat methods, suffered heavy casualties and ultimately fell.

With the Ascendancy victorious, those who resisted found themselves imprisoned within The Alt, along with those who had voluntarily joined, only to discover they could not leave. The caretakers of Libertas revealed themselves as rulers, and for nearly two centuries, those in The Alt have been slaves, serving their oppressors without access to their physical bodies.

Yet, a glimmer of hope remains: freedom from The Alt's servitude can be achieved through arena combat.

This rich backstory sets the stage for the intense battles and strategic gameplay of Libertas, where players can delve into a world shaped by technological advancement, philosophical divides, and the fight for freedom.
